I love to create art that brings the outside in. I love art that makes me think about what I am seeing and not just see it. It is that that I am trying to achieve in my work as I begin this journey as an artist.

I loved art in high school, but it was 15 years before I picked up a paint brush again, surprising myself and my friends with what I could achieve. I’ve learned that by using vibrant colours and creating depth the viewer will be drawn into my work and experience it in a more active way.

My current works represents my renewal as an artist, reflecting the places, people, and objects that I love or fascinate me.

Portrait of Pam Van Londen, Artist

Acrylic on Canvas
8x10

I did this painting for the Different Strokes Blog. Pam Van Londen, an artist from Oregon, did an amazingly beautiful painting of me, putting my attempt to shame, but not as bad as the first few tries. Portraits are tough! Pam and I are trading our portraits.

You can see Pam's website @ http://i-paint.us/

Pam Van Londen ~ daily painter of landscapes, portraits, and still life said...

Hi Brian. Glad I can finally learn about who you are. YES, let's trade! Email me your address using my contact form from here http://pamvanlonden.com and I'll send it next week.

My favorite portrait listed on your blog so far is "PA". You've captured a moment so well.

I admire the freedom in your brush strokes...something I strive for every day. My portrait of you was supposed to be much freer; not sure what happened. I drew and painted it upside down so I wouldn't worry about the subject. That worked, but I got so involved in the shapes I forgot to loosen up.

Happy New Year!
